REPERTOIRE 

JUNIOR A - up to 18 years old

Eliminatory Round

  • One Etude of the contestant’s choice
  • One Prelude and Fugue by J.S.Bach
  • One piece of participant’s choice that doesn’t exceed 5 minutes duration

Final Round

  • Recital Program that doesn’t exceed 30 minutes duration, that includes one piece from the classical period (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven), and one piece from the XX or XXI century.

JUNIOR B - up to 15 years old

Eliminatory Round

  • One Etude of the contestant’s choice
  • One piece by J.S.Bach (Invention, Sinfonia or Prelude and Fugue)

Final Round

  • Program of the participant’s choice that doesn’t exceed 20 minutes duration, including one piece Portuguese composer or from the original country of the competitor.

JUNIOR C - up to 13 years old

Single Round (max. 15 minutes)

  • One study of the participant’s choice
  • Two contrasting pieces of the contestant’s choice, including one piece from Portuguese composer or from the original country of the competitor.

JUNIOR D - up to 11 years old

Single Round (max. 12 minutes)

  • One study of the participant’s choice
  • Two contrasting pieces of the participant’s choice, including one piece from Portuguese composer or from the original country of the competitor.

JUNIOR E - up to 9 years old

Single Round

  • Two contrasting pieces of the participant’s choice, including one piece from Portuguese composer or from the original country of the competitor.

JUNIOR F - up to 7 years old

Single Round

  • Two contrasting pieces of the participant’s choice.

JUNIOR RULES

By signing up for the Contest, and for as long as such entry remains, each contestant acknowledges and explicitly accepts the Rules of the Contest, always in its latest version, available on this page and in the other sections of this website.

Each contestant undertakes to comply with the guidelines and conditions of the referred Rules, and to periodically consult them, to stay informed about possible changes.

  • The competition is open to participants of all nationalities;
  • Junior section comprises participants up to 18 years old;
  • The Junior section is divided in 6 categories: A (up to 18 years old), B (up to 15 years old), C (up to 13 years old), D (up to 11 years old), E (up to 9 years old) and F (up to 7 years old);
  • The age of the participant is considered on the 31st of December 2024;
  • Participants that received lessons from a member of the Jury in the last three years can’t take part in the competition. In the event of any irregularity, the participant won’t be allowed to participate in the competition;
  • First prize winners from previous editions are not eligible to enter the same category in which they won their prize;
  • The Final Concert of the Junior Categories will happen on the 19th of July 2025 at Fundação Manuel António de Mota;
  • The prizes will be delivered at the Final Concert, at Fundação Manuel António de Mota, on the 19th of July 2025. In order to receive the prize the presence is obligatory;
  • The organization/scheduling of the Recitals concerning the prizes are responsibility of the institutions that offer the prize;
  • Participants living in China shall first register for the Sta Cecília Competition in their country. The selected participants should send their diplom to the email junior@scecilia-competition.com, within the registration deadline;
  • Registration in the competition pressuposes acceptance of all the points mentionned in these regulations.
  • The application should be done online on the website: www.scecilia-competition.com;
  • Together with the online form the following documents will be required to attach:
    • Recent photo;
    • Curriculum Vitae – maximum 700 characters;
    • Payment Receipt – attach scan of the check or bank transfer receipt;
  • Application deadline 25th of May 2025;
  • The repertoire can’t be changed after the application is done;
  • The fee for the categories is:
    • JUNIOR A – 80 euros
    • JUNIOR B – 75 euros
    • JUNIOR C – 65 euros
    • JUNIOR D, E, F – 30 euros
  • The payment can be done through:
    • Bank Transfer to IBAN PT50 0010 0000 5121 7990 0016 5, BIC BBPIPTPL / Banco BPI – Balcão Foz – Praça do Império (the name, instrument and category of the participant must figure on description);

  • Fees will not be returned in case of non-attendance;
  • In carrying enrolment, competitors are authorizing the use of their image through photography or filming, for the purposes of institutional publicity;
  • Application will not be accepted if containing incomplete or false data;
  • Applications will only be validated when all documents are received.
  • The piano rounds of the Junior Section will take place at Casa da Música;
  • The schedule of the performances, as well as the practicing times, will be posted on the competition website until the 11th of June 2025;
  • Participants must present themselves at the proper location 30 minutes earlier than the scheduled time of the competition and submit the Identification Card;
  • The repertoire should be played by memory and can not be repeated in different rounds.

All the matters not covered in this regulation will be submitted to consideration by the Organizing Committee of this competition in charge of its analysis and solution.
