Maurizio Matarrese

He graduated with highest honors from the Conservatory of Music “Niccolò Piccini” in Bari under the guidance of Marisa Somma. He continued his piano studies with Novin Afrouz, Paul Badura Skoda, Aldo Ciccolini and François Joël Thiollier.
BIOGRAPHY
He made his debut at the age of seventeen performing the “Konzertstücke op.79” by Carl Maria Von Weber at Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, accompanied by the Orchestra Sinfonica of Bari.
Since the he began a brilliant career, both solo and in duo with his wife Carla Aventaggiato, and has performed for important musical associations in prestigious locations (Rome, Milan, Lecce, Brindisi, Rovigo, Cosenza, Matera, Potenza, Ravello, Amalfi, etc.), getting everywhere acclaim from audiences and critics. On the occasion of New Year 2008 he has performed “Rhapsody in Blue” by George Gershwin at the Teatro Piccinni in Bari, concert recorded and televised by the broadcaster “Telenorba”.
Awarded in several national and international piano competitions, has realised the recording of two CD’s: “Frank & Beethoven” (Fonit Cetra 1990), “Nino Rota, the piano music of the films of Fellini” (Ducal 1997). This recording has been assessed as very flattering critics: “…Running brilliant, fascinating and intensely poetic” (Rome);… “Performer with ardent temperament” (La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno);… “Opera with great artistic value” (Amadeus);…”Intimacy and sweetness” (II Sole 24 Ore).
Regularly invited to be part of commissions of national and international piano competitions, is artistic director of the International Piano Competition “Città di Casamassima”, the musical association “Amdeus” Casamassima and the Centro Studi “Giovanni Colafemmina” of Acquaviva delle Fonti.
Professor of piano at the Conservatory “N.Piccini” in Bari, plays teaching since the age of eighteen and thirty years experience is borne out by the success of many of its students on competitions and concerts. He has held seminars on piano technique and masterclasses in Bari, Lucera, Borgia, Trani, Vieste, Marina Pietrasanta.
