The 2025 competition brings two major highlights: the inclusion of a chamber music recital in the Semifinals and the presence of the renowned Brazilian conductor Roberto Tibiriçá leading the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música during the Final.

For the first time, the Semifinals will feature the performance of a piano quintet, accompanied by a quartet of soloists from the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música, including Álvaro Pereira (Violin I), Ana Madalena Ribeiro (Violin II), Mateusz Stasto (Viola), and Nikolai Gimaletdinov (Cello). The recital program offers a selection of chamber music masterpieces, such as Brahms’ Quintet in F minor, op. 34, Dvořák’s Quintet in A major, op. 81, Fauré’s Quintet No. 1 in D minor, op. 89, Franck’s Quintet in F minor, and Schumann’s Quintet in E-flat major, op. 44.

In the Final, the Orquestra Sinfónica will be conducted by Roberto Tibiriçá, an internationally acclaimed Brazilian maestro. Born in 1954, Tibiriçá has built an illustrious career over the decades, winning the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra’s Young Conductors’ Competition twice and collaborating with major orchestras in Brazil and abroad. With a special dedication to Brazilian repertoire, he served as Music Director of the Petrobras Pro Música Orchestra and the Minas Gerais Symphony Orchestra, as well as Assistant Conductor at Lisbon’s Teatro Nacional de São Carlos. Notable highlights of his career include performances with renowned artists such as Martha Argerich, Nelson Freire, and Barry Douglas.

The Final of the Competition, with the three pianists, promises to be a standout event in the 2025 musical calendar, with tickets already available at the Casa da Música box office.
